After 25+ years leading HR inside larger organizations, I saw how easily corporate HR becomes about policies instead of people. At the same time, I watched small business owners in my own life — my wife, family, and friends — trying to lead teams with little to no guidance. They were rockstars in their fields, but no one ever taught them the people side of running a business.

Yes—just a simple one. As an independent contractor, we use a straightforward agreement to make sure expectations are clear and aligned from the start. This includes a brief Statement of Work (SOW) that outlines the services we’ll provide, the associated costs, and an estimated timeline, unless we’re working together in an ongoing partnership.

Payment terms are clearly outlined in the agreement and Statement of Work before work begins. We do not require a deposit as long as payment is made within 30 days of invoicing. For larger projects or ongoing partnerships, we may agree on milestone-based billing or a monthly retainer—always discussed and aligned upfront to keep things simple and transparent.
